Woman faces charges following tractor trailer crash the closed I-91 in Rocky Hill for hours
ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) – A woman was arrested in connection with a tractor trailer crash that happened over the weekend in Rocky Hill.
State police said they charged Fernandita Aquino-Almonte, 37, of South Windsor, with liability of owner, operating with minimum insurance, evading responsibility, failure to drive in a proper lane, and interfering with an officer.
Aquino-Almonte was arrested on Sunday.
Part of I-91 in Rocky Hill was closed for hours on Sunday following a crash that involved an Acura and the tractor trailer.
The Rocky Hill Fire Department responded to the crash around 5:20 a.m.
It happened on the northbound side near exit 24.
According to troopers, Aquino-Almonte headed north on I-91 in the left lane.
The tractor trailer driver was in the center lane.
For an unknown reason, state police said Aquino-Almonte made a sudden lane change and decelerated.
As a result, the tractor trailer was unable to stop in time and collided with the rear of Aquino-Almonte’s car.
Aquino-Almonte’s car spun out and hit a wire rope guardrail.
The tractor tailer rolled over.
State police said the tractor trailer was completely on its side when they arrived. The fire department said it was carrying bananas.
Aquino-Almonte fled the scene, but was arrested later in the day, troopers said.
No injuries were reported at the scene of the crash.
Aquino-Almonte was issued a $5,000 non-surety bond and was released.
She was given a court date of Sept. 29 in Manchester.
